The Westmere Walkway is an ongoing project for the Rotary Club of Wanganui.  Until the Westmere walkway (stage one) was opened in February 2007,the only substantial walkway in the city was along the banks of the river.  
The new walkway provides magnificent views over the city and the river.  The track is through privately owned farmland and Matipo park, a council reserve.  The track only exists because of the generosity of the land owner and the efforts made by members of the Wanganui Rotary Club.
