Wanganui Rotary Foodbank

In 1992 the Club began a scheme to assist the Wanganui Food Bank. The driving force behind its inauguration was club member Dave Arbuckle. He has administered the scheme until 2005 within the auspices of the Senior Committee of the Club.

As club members arrive at each meeting at noon on a Monday, they file past a welcoming table where they pay for the meal they are about to eat and register their attendance. Then they passed by the foodbank table where a contribution of $1.00 or $1.50 purchased an small grocery item which was placed in the "purchased" box for the foodbank. The purchase was mostly symbolic although occasionally members did contribute actual food items for the bank. The money collected went to the Wanganui Food Bank.

Members of the Senior Committee ensured the table was set up and Club members were rostered onto the collection table each week. Sometimes of course, the rostered member was late or absent. Dave was always on hand to over if that occurred.

Between 1992 and 2005 the total contribution from the club has been $32000+. The scheme was suspended in 2006 and other means are under consideration to help the food bank
