The Careers Expo

Every second year, the Rotary Club of Wanganui and the Wanganui Secondary schools combine to organise a "Careers Expo". The aim is to provide senior students with information and ideas about a wide variety of possible careers.

Industry groups, Tertiary Education Providers, local businesses and the Armed Forces provide displays and information booths and also conduct seminars thoughout the day.

The last expo was held in May 2006 with 63 sites of displays and 70 seminars run seven at a time each half hour. Rotary assists with the organisation and provids manpower during the day for guides and an "adult presence".

Sponsors assist with the funding and the stall holders pay for their space. Some years Rotary assists with funding and some years receives income if the expo runs under budget.

Crowds surge through the display area

The event is held at the Wanganui Function Centre. Students arrive and depart all day on buses from their schools. The function centre has display halls and seminar rooms and a pleasant outdoor area.
