Scrap Metal Collection

The club supports a whole variety of causes for which money is required. Some recent examples some special teaching aids for a disabled student, support for a group involved in bird rescue, helping a young person get to Outward Bound, helping replace musical intruments for a group that had theirs stolen. A steady stream of requests for help are received and many of these cases are very worthy. These are in addition to regular Rotary activities supporting local and overseas charities. We need an income stream and one of our members; Ed Boyd has organised a scrap metal collection, sorting and sale project in conjunction with the Wanganui Vintage Car Club

Club members are always on the lookout for scrap. A pile of old junk in a backyard, at an industrial site, on a farm: Ed and club members are there to pick it up. Often several tons are picked up.

A recent addition to the project is the Rotary Club of Waverley. They have access to a continuing source of scrap metal as an offshoot of a different fundraiser they are involved with. That gives another source of scrap.

Last year the Wanganui rotary Club's share of the proceeds was $8500
